Distal Tibiofibular X-Ray
Objective
Assessment of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis. Detection of syndesmotic diastasis in Weber B–C fractures, Maisonneuve fractures and severe ankle sprains.
Quality criteria
Distal tibiofibular syndesmosis projected in axis.
Distal margins of tibia and fibula sharp.
Symmetric comparison with the contralateral side.
Common errors
Insufficient rotation — fibula–tibia overlap not assessable.
Field too wide — loss of detail over the syndesmosis.
Missing bilateral comparison in suspected cases.
