Cervical Spine Lateral X-Ray (Trauma)
Objective
Initial assessment of the cervical spine in the trauma patient to exclude unstable injuries.
Quality criteria
All vertebrae from C1 to C7–T1 MUST be visualised.
Anterior and posterior vertebral profiles assessable.
Common errors
C7 not visualised (NOT acceptable in trauma).
Neck movement.
Shoulders not sufficiently depressed.
