AP Lordotic Chest X-Ray (Apices)
Objective
Visualise the lung apices free from clavicular superimposition. Indicated in suspected apical pathology: tuberculosis, cavities, Pancoast syndrome, apical neoplasms.
Quality criteria
Lung apices projected above the clavicles, free from superimposition.
Bilateral symmetry.
Both apices included in the field.
Common errors
Insufficient lordosis — clavicles still overlying the apices.
Patient rotation — apical asymmetry.
Field too narrow — apices excluded.
