Grid Factor (Bucky Factor)
FormulaUsing an anti-scatter grid requires an increase in mAs to compensate for its absorption.
mAs_grid = mAs_no_grid × BF
Typical Bucky Factor (BF) values:
• Ratio 5:1 → BF ≈ 3
• Ratio 8:1 → BF ≈ 4
• Ratio 10:1 → BF ≈ 5
• Ratio 12:1 → BF ≈ 6
The mAs increase compensates for the grid's absorption while maintaining the correct optical density on the image.
