Tangential Abdomen X-Ray
Objective
Tangential study of the anterior or lateral abdominal wall. Indicated for foreign bodies within the wall, parietal calcifications, superficial masses, subcutaneous emphysema, selected abdominal wall hernias.
Quality criteria
Abdominal wall of the side of interest in tangential profile.
Skin surface visible.
Target structure (foreign body, calcification, mass) included in the field.
Common errors
Non-tangential positioning — target not in profile.
Field not centred over the clinical area of interest.
Patient movement.
