Hip X-Ray AP (Unilateral)
Objective
Frontal view of the coxofemoral joint with field collimated to the examined side only. Indicated in hip arthroplasty follow-up, femoral neck fracture follow-up, hip osteoarthritis, femoral head osteonecrosis.
Quality criteria
Femoral head centred in the field.
Femoral neck in axis (not foreshortened).
Acetabulum included.
Greater and lesser trochanters visible.
Prosthesis or implant (if present) included in its entirety.
Common errors
Insufficient internal rotation — femoral neck foreshortened.
Field too narrow — prosthesis or implant not fully included.
Pelvic rotation.
