Hip X-Ray Cross-Table Lateral (Trauma)
Lateral visualisation of the femoral head and neck without mobilising the limb. Essential for diagnosing femoral neck fractures and measuring the cervicodiaphyseal angle in non-mobilisable patients. Always combined with AP pelvis.
Femoral head in lateral view.
Femoral neck free from superimposition.
Greater trochanter visible laterally.
Cervicodiaphyseal angle measurable.
No rotation of the femoral head.
Contralateral limb not abducted — obscures the femoral neck.
Incorrect beam angulation — false perspective of the neck.
Detector not vertical — geometric distortion.
No grid — insufficient diagnostic quality.
