TMJ X-Ray (Temporomandibular Joint)
Assess the morphology of the mandibular condyle and its position in the glenoid fossa with mouth closed and mouth open.
Indicated in temporomandibular dysfunction, condylar arthrosis, suspected condylar fractures.
Mandibular condyle visible in profile in the glenoid fossa.
Articular tubercle and glenoid fossa defined.
Mouth open: condyle translated anteriorly (normal).
Mouth closed: condyle in posterior position centred in the fossa.
Head rotation (superimposition of cranial structures).
Insufficient or excessive caudal beam angulation.
Superimposition with the contralateral mastoid.
Failure to perform both positions.
Movement during exposure.
