Air-fluid level

Anatomy

Liquid-gas interface visible on erect projections as a sharp horizontal line with air above and fluid below. It indicates abnormal accumulation of gas and fluid in the bowel loops or other cavities. A sign of bowel obstruction or paralytic ileus.
