Sesamoids

Anatomy

Small bones embedded within tendons, located at sites of greatest mechanical friction. The most clinically relevant sesamoids in radiology are those of the first digit of the hand (flexor tendons) and of the first toe (flexor hallucis tendon). They require dedicated projections for their axial visualisation.
